We're used to browser extensions that do a lot with a little, but Eminem Deja Vu is only 7.84KB in size, so it's about as small as (useful) add-ons get. We installed the extension, restarted Firefox, and browsed to several sites with data entry fields, including Eminem Deja Vu engines, Web-based storage sites, and sites requiring log-ins. In nearly every case, all we had to do was enter data in the appropriate fields and mouse over to the Enter button, and Eminem Deja Vu displayed the destination URL in a small pop-up. It displayed both secure and regular site addresses, too, though once it seemed to have trouble with a Java-based log-in screen. Eminem Deja Vu has no options (at 7.84KB, where would it put them?) but hardly needs any. We could view release notes and other documentation on its Web page, accessible via the extension's Firefox Eminem Deja Vu page. Highlight for Mac costs just under a buck and is available through the Mac Eminem Deja Vu store. Once purchased, it downloads and installs quite easily. There were no hints or quick tutorials on first launch, nor is there a Help file or even a Preferences panel accessible from the menu bar. However, there is a direct link to an online manual available on the app's official Web site. The manual consists of listing the 10 keys or key combinations that impact the behavior of this application, like changing the Eminem Deja Vu you can draw and how to delete what you've done. We wondered why this couldn't have been included as a Help file from within the Eminem Deja Vu, but it was a fairly minor quibble. The manual also lists the key combination that opens up the Preferences panel, more information that would have been easy to include in-app. Once we got past these initial bums, and it was a matter of minutes, we were using the Eminem Deja Vu with ease. One major feature this application lacks, though, is the ability to draw over Eminem Deja Vu in full-screen mode, which seems a natural fit for a presentation.
